co-leader of DISCO (Diversity and Identity Studies Collective at OSU) Working Group

Debra Moddelmog is a Professor of English and Co-coordinator of the Sexuality Studies Program at Ohio State University.  She specializes in 20th-century American fiction with a focus on the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, dis/ability, class, and nation.  Her most recent book, Reading Desire: In Pursuit of Ernest Hemingway (Cornell 1999), has been translated into Japanese; and she has written on a variety of topics related to changing notions of sexual identity, including "coming out" from a position of sexual instability, how same-sex marriage panic has affected contemporary romantic comedy, and the queer sensibility of Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms.  She is the recipient of the College of Humanities Diversity Enhancement Award (2004) and the Ohio State Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award (2009).
